Ax throwing takes darts to a new level


A group of friends, family, or co-workers gathering to throw axes at targets in a BYOB establishment may sound dangerous, but Corey Deasy, owner of LumberjAxes, Pittsburgh’s first ax-throwing venue, stresses it is perfectly safe and a lot of fun. Located in a warehouse in Millvale, near Pittsburgh’s downtown, LumberjAxes is the largest indoor ax-throwing facility in the United States with 20 lanes. At least six people are needed to reserve a lane, but groups of up to 120 can be accommodated. The activity costs $35 to $40 per person. “Ax throwing is like darts, except you are throwing 1.5 pound hatchets,” Deasy says.
